The Best Place to Work in Chicago

It's been almost a year and a half since our Chicagoist interview was published, and a lot has changed since then. The Google Chicago engineering office has grown tremendously since we started hiring in May of 2007, and I have to say that I was pretty excited to find out today that Crain's Chicago Business ranked Google first out of the top 20 places to work in Chicago. They even created a slideshow to give you an idea of what it's like to work in our office (narrated by Ben and I). It really does a great job of capturing the look and feel of our office.

Photos by Steve Serio (who photographed, recorded, and helped produce the slideshow). Thanks Steve!

PS If you'd like to work in Google's Chicago office, take a peek at the open positions.

Hey, I like my office and all the secrecy. And I like that SF has more pets than kids. My pets love it here. =)

Hey.

Sorry to invade your blog entry but I've been trying to get a hold of ANYBODY from Google and finding Google contact points on the web can be... infuriating.

I'm not looking for a job, and I'm not looking for the highly coveted Pagerank formula. I'm just out trying to find a single piece of information for my own amusement and academic interest. I realize you may not POSSESS this information, but you may have a company directory and be able to forward my inquiry to an appropriate person. Or you may just KNOW somebody... whatever.

I'm merely curious in knowing if Google, specifically the Gmail IT people, have any statistic on file regarding the quantity of spam in terabytes, petabytes (or whatever) that gets shit-canned every day in gmail and hosted gmail world.

I've had my domain for almost half a decade and gave up using it for e-mail because the spam was just getting obnoxious. Then I switched to Google Apps and my spam-free life has been nothing short of a joy.

Again, I'm just looking for this information for my own entertainment.

Thanks for letting me "butt in" in a non-topical kind of way.

Brian: Google Chicago definitely sounds like a cool place to work and as coincidence would have it, I was looking today for a potential speaker in Chicago on "How to Create an Award-Winning Workplace Environment" for a conference my group is doing later this month (July 31-Aug 1). Love to speak with someone there about the possibility of including Google Chicago at that event. You can email me at richardjsauter (at) gmail (dot) com

Thanks!!!

You know it's funny I work on the 10th floor of the building for the Chicago Sky WNBA team, and every single time the elevator doors open for the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors respectively I gawk and feel as if the floodgates of heaven are expunging a visual tour de force so immense that I feel weak at the knees, and have the sudden urge to fall down and cry. Then I get to the 10th floor and continue my day as usual.. If you googlers are interested in getting a group out to one of our games just email me at jdrambarean@gmail.com, until then I'll just keep dreaming of one day witnessing the cafeteria that produces the culinary masterpieces that grace me every time I go down for lunch and get stuck on the 9th floor as 10 googlers pack into the elevator to get to their desks, and torture all the rest of us!!!! Haha I'm so jealous! BTW bring google chrome to Linuz already!
